Traffic Week in Abu Dhabi: A Convoy of 150 Motorcycles and an Awareness Exhibition for Families and Students

Today, the activities continue for the the 31st Unified GCC Traffic Week in Abu Dhabi as the Traffic Awareness Exhibition for Families and Students was launched at the Al Mushrif Mall in Abu Dhabi. The exhibition, under the slogan “Your Decision Determines Your Destiny”, is organized by the Saaed Society to Reduce Traffic Accidents in coordination with the Traffic and Patrols Directorate in Abu Dhabi Police, under the community partnership approach for enhancing the traffic culture among families and all segments of society.

Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate in Abu Dhabi Police and Chairman of the Saaed Society to Reduce Traffic Accidents, said that the aim of the traffic awareness exhibition for families is to send a comprehensive message to families and all the segments of society; a message that elevates their awareness regarding the risks associated with traffic accidents, and encourages them to cooperate with the police to reduce accidents. He stressed the role of all competent bodies to make the right decision to reduce traffic accidents.

Brigadier Al Harithi stated that the efforts of the Saaed Society in the field of traffic awareness, through its strategic partnership with the Directorate, adds to the efforts exerted by the Abu Dhabi Police to raise the level of preventive awareness and implement modern and educational concepts regarding traffic. The chosen educational methods are interactive and in accordance with the most advanced international standards in the fields of raising awareness and are utilized in an effort to instill the traffic culture amongst every level of society, and most particularly the younger generation.

Brigadier Khamis Ishaq Mohammed, Deputy Director of the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate, in the presence of directors of departments in the directorate, inaugurated the traffic awareness exhibition for students, with the participation of nearly 25 schools from the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC). The exhibition displays creatively designed models of roads and junctions, reflecting the students’ awareness of the traffic safety cause. He encouraged the students to form new horizons of traffic awareness, calling on them to continue such creative efforts that focus on traffic safety.

Brigadier Khamis toured the platforms that included a traffic exhibition of smart systems used in the field of automatic monitoring, as well as the vehicles of Abu Dhabi Traffic Police. He viewed the educational competitions and videos that promote positive road behavior in innovative methods, are reflective of reality, and shed light on the psychological, physical, and financial effects caused by accidents.

The exhibition showcased innovative traffic applications including a damaged car with a quick response code that provides details of the accident when scanned with a smartphone. The exhibition also included “Shadow Game”, an interactive awareness presentation for the whole family that educates players on how to make the most appropriate decisions as a road user; and an “interactive timetable”, a wall that holds the numeric history of achievements realized during the last 10 years.

Brigadier Khamis praised the efforts of the partners, including: Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC), Baynounah Group, and Emirates Driving Company. He also stressed on the importance keeping a community-centered role through the exerted efforts to limit accidents and to protect public and private property by adopting and strengthening social traffic efforts.

Brigadier Khamis also called upon all segments of society to visit the Traffic Awareness Exhibition for Family in the Al Mushrif Mall in Abu Dhabi from March 15 to 19, and to benefit from the diverse programs that include organizing competitions for children and adults on an open stage and distributing awareness brochures.

Towards the end of the ceremony, Brigadier Khamis honored the partners at the Traffic Awareness Exhibition for Family, including: Baynounah Group, Emirates Steel, Al Mushrif Mall, Emirates Driving Company, Emirates Transport, Al Masaood Bridgestone, Al Lulu Mall, and poet Ali Nasser Al Hatali.

Similarly, the Motorbike Traffic Awareness convoy concluded Saturday at Yas Mall in Abu Dhabi. The event witnessed the participation of 150 bikers who toured a number of the cities starting in Fujairah. Celebrating the 31st Unified GCC Traffic Week, the main objective of the event was to encourage bikers to make the right decisions, to abide by the rules and regulations while on the motorcycle, and to present a model of the seamless traffic laws and regulations. Such rules and regulations are in place in order to maintain traffic flow and to avoid disturbing others.

The convoy was received by Colonel Jamal Salem Al Ameri, Chief of Public Relations Section at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, Abu Dhabi Police and Head of the Preparations Committee; who was responsible for organizing the nation-wide events for the GCC Traffic Week. He praised the initiative that was organized in coordination with the Emirates Club for Automobile and Motorbikes. The initiative falls within the framework of the unified programs of the traffic directorates in the UAE which aim to support the efforts of protecting society members against the adverse effects of traffic accidents.

Colonel Al Ameri said: “The initiative was organized for the first time to attract an important segment of motorists, namely bikers, as bike accidents represent great dangers for road users.” He also stressed that awareness programs continue to guarantee the highest level of traffic awareness for citizens and residents alike and reminds them of the importance of abiding by the traffic laws and behaviors.
