The Fifth Fire Safety Technology Forum to kick off Next March

According to Major General Expert Rashid Thani Al Matroushi, Civil Defense Acting General Commander-in-Chief, the Civil Defense Directorate General at the Ministry of Interior will be organizing the 5th Annual Fire Safety Technology Forum on March 2nd, 2015. The forum, organized under the auspices of Lt. General H.H Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, will be held at the Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi, as a part of the World Civil Defense Day’s celebrations, which is celebrated every year on the 1st of March.

Major General Al Matroushi noted that the strategy of the Directorate General of Civil Defense in the UAE focuses on the use of advanced technology in the provision of smart civil defense services in the field of awareness, prevention and protection. He noted that the Fire Safety Technology Forum this year will tackle issues pertaining to the World Civil Defense Day celebrations’ theme (‘Civil Protection and disaster reduction within sustainable development’), as a result of the success achieved during the past four annual Fire Safety Technology forums, which tackled the following topics:  “Civil Defense and Culture of Prevention for a Safer Society” in 2014; “Civil Protection and Preparation of Civil Societies disaster risk prevention” in 2013; “Recovering from fires in high-rise buildings” in 2012; and “Best Global Practices and Technological Applications” in 2011.

He said: “The fifth forum this year aims at attracting the best practices and latest studies pertaining to advanced technology investment in the world, to serve the strategies and applications required to managing crises and disasters in various situations. An elite group of experts and a number of field leaders from developed countries specialized in the strategies and applications of technological handling of crises and disasters will take part in the forum to present their visions, experiences, applications, and analysis on the risks of fires and their resulting life and property losses.”

The forum will be attended by directors general from the Civil Defense in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries(GCC); heads of Civil Defense departments in the country; a large number of civil defense officers across all emirates of the country; as well as representatives of manufacturers and  installation and maintenance companies specialized in civil defense equipment.

Adding further, he said: “The forum will discuss several topics including the risks and means of ensuring readiness for emergency situations; the role of first responders and the participating entities in responding to major incidents; as well as analysis of chemical accidents that recently occurred in the USA, the Netherlands, Britain, and Venezuela; and emergency planning in populated areas; in addition to ship accidents and maritime safety.”

Furthermore, Major General Expert Al Matroushi praised the cooperation of government and private entities’ partners, in order to ensure the success of the forum. He also thanked the sponsors and representatives of Bangkok Bristol, Al Falak, and NAFFCO companies for their contributions in achieving the strategic objectives related to public safety that the Ministry of Interior and Civil Defense Directorate General are keen to provide to all individual and the community.

He also noted that the previous forums have achieved several results that were highly beneficial to the Civil defense sector in the UAE. “The forums have achieved their intended objectives, namely getting acquainted with the modern technology  applications regarding recovery from crises, disasters, and accidents; the best global practices with respect to fire safety; exchange of knowledge and experience; identifying the strategic visions of other emergency bodies; reviewing and studying the models of previous incidents; discussing lessons learned; strengthening relations with strategic leaders from emergency bodies in the developed countries in the field of safety; building distinguished relations with the concerned authorities in the private emergency sector at the national or international levels,” he said.

It is worth mentioning that the forum’s previous editions, which were held during the past four years (2011-2014), have seen the participation of 1000 participants and 100 exhibitors. Key speeches were delivered during these forums by as many as  32 experts and field leaders from government authorities, organizations and companies specialized in fire safety,  fire protection engineering, and handling emergency, crises, and disasters from several countries including the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) – the United Kingdom – the United States of America - Canada - France - Germany - Italy - Greece - Hong Kong - Singapore - Australia.
