Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, attended the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) and Gulf Craft. The signing ceremony was held yesterday, Wednesday, in the presence of Lt. General Saif Abdullah Al Sha’far, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior, along the sidelines of the Dubai International Boat Show. By virtue of the MoU, Gulf Craft undertakes to train and educate the students enrolled in the marine engineering programs at HTC.   His Highness urged both sides to focus on qualifying the marine engineering students at the HCT in accordance with the most advanced scientific methods and methodologies, and to refine their knowledge through practical experiences in support of the local boating industry. The experiences are to include the intricate techniques utilized within the industry and the innovative aspects within the field are to be supported and recognized. Moreover, HH Sheikh Saif emphasized the importance of educating the citizens of the UAE in industrial disciplines associated with the international standards of the boating industry.  

The MOU was signed by Dr. Tayeb Kamali, Director of HCT, and Mohammed Hussein Al Shaali, CEO of Gulf Craft. The MoU provides that Gulf Craft shall offer scholarships for HCT students enrolled in the marine engineering and naval architecture programs accredited by the UAE. Reciprocally, HTC shall provide the necessary assistance for the company through the provision of educational and training programs and applied research when needed.

Furthermore, Gulf Craft shall provide practical and field training, and opportunities for students of the marine engineering and naval architecture programs in the HTC. The two sides shall work closely to effectively manage and improve the program, and to provide the concerned institutions of the UAE with the necessary studies to develop the boating industry locally.

Dr. Tayeb Kamali pointed out that the signing of this MoU represents an important step towards the development of the marine engineering programs at HCT. Moreover, he highlighted the keenness of the HCT to develop and deliver a wide range of courses and training initiatives in order to cater to the needs of the UAE’s continuously progressing marine engineering sector.

Adding further, he reiterated the commitment of the HCT to provide a practical program that responds to the needs of the country’s work sectors. Dr. Kamali also noted that the HCT relentlessly endeavors to provide its graduates with extensive knowledge and advanced skills, and to enable them as active participants in the growth and development of the UAE.

For his part, Mohammed Hussein Al Shaali, CEO of Gulf Craft expressed his sincere pleasure and pride in collaborating with HCT to develop a program for students who aspire to work in the field of marine engineering.

Pointing to the importance of maritime heritage as an integral part of UAE’s history, Al Shaali emphasized the importance of providing professional opportunities for students in the field of marine engineering and in building a sustainable future for this vital field in the UAE.
