Police Confiscate 38 Kg of ‘Hashish Concealed in Coffee Bags’ in the Possession of a Gulf National and his Girlfriend, in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, June 1st 2016 [ME NewsWire]

While patrolling one of the capital's streets, the Abu Dhabi Police (ADP) confiscated more than 38 kilograms of hashish found concealed in coffee bags hidden in the trunk of a vehicle driven by a young Gulf man, accompanied with a girl (of the same nationality.)

The ADP carried out security procedures in confiscating the drugs. The suspect was arrested immediately after the permit approval was issued by the public prosecution, so that the Anti-Narcotic officers could arrest him and carry out a personal inspection, after having followed him and monitored his suspicious movements with a nearby security patrol.

Colonel Dr. Rashid Mohammad Borshid, Head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) stressed the ADP’s eagerness to implement all aspects and capabilities to provide maximum levels of safety and security, in accordance with the crime prevention and reduction strategy to protect the country’s security, stability and resources.

He also stressed the ADP commitment to acquire the necessary skills and capabilities to thwart criminal activities and to identify, arrest and prosecute the perpetrators. He also called upon community members, nationals and residents alike to report any violations and illegal behaviors by raising their cooperation to achieve the desired levels of security and safety.

Moreover, Colonel Borshid explained that the suspect’s arrest was based on a field follow-up by the Anti-Drug Section at the CID. “The arrest team apprehended the suspect with his friend after receiving permission from the relevant authorities,” he said.

Giving details, Colonel Sultan Suwayeh Al Darmaki, Chief of the Anti-Drug Section at the Abu Dhabi Police, indicated that the suspect “24 year-old Kh. N.,” was monitored by anti-narcotics staff after receiving confidential information concerning the possession of drugs. Investigations revealed his involvement in the purchase, sale and promotion of drugs.” He pointed out that the Section operates according to a police system that studies and analyses data, and links common threads within them until completing procedures and arresting the suspects.

He also noted that a working group has been assigned to monitor the suspect after confirming the validity of information, and thanks to close follow-up marked by secrecy, the group was able to arrest the suspect in a public place, where he was accompanied by a young woman, "24 year-old F. T."

Furthermore, he explained that the suspect was found in possession of 38.3 kilograms of hashish hidden inside 38 coffee bags, placed inside cloth bags of different shapes, colors and sizes, in the trunk of the vehicle he was using when he was arrested. He pointed out that the inspection also resulted in finding a significant amount of narcotics, as well as suspicious items that are used in drug abuse.

Upon questioning, the suspect confessed that the seized materials found in his possession belonged to him. His friend confessed that she knew that her friend was using drugs, so they were consequently both referred, together with the confiscated drugs, to the relevant authorities for further investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
