Nutrition Education Lecture at the Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, November 12th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

The Media and Public Relations Section at the Directorate General of Resources and Support services, at the Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs sector, organized a nutrition awareness lecture for the Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs’ staff members. The lecture, held in cooperation with Tawam Hospital, took place at the “Spirit of the Union” hall at the Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs headquarters.

The lecture embodies the Directorate General of Resources and Support Services’ commitment to communication and internal interaction, and to spreading awareness about healthy nutrition and its impact on the health and well-being of individuals and society.

During the lecture, Nada Zuhair Al Adeeb, Director of Community Nutrition at Tawam Hospital, highlighted the causes of obesity and the means to get rid of abdominal fat. Moreover, she highlighted the importance of healthy nutrition; and gave an overview of the dietary guidelines issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the consumer’s grocery shopping guide. Dr. Al Adeeb also tackled the difference between natural juices, nectar and soft drinks, as well as their detrimental effects on human health.

On the same note, the Director of Community Nutrition at Tawam Hospital briefed the attendees on the daily recommended food intakes and types of food. She shed light on diabetes symptoms and prevention means and provided a list of the sugar-rich foods to avoid.

For her part, Maha Al Nuaimi, Administrative employee at Tawam hospital discussed detoxing as well as the means to cleanse the body and eliminate toxins. The audience interacted positively with the lecture and inquired about the appropriate types of food to be consumed daily to prevent diabetes.

The lecture was attended by a large number of officers, non-commissioned officers, constables, civilians and female staff members from the Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs sector.

At the end of the lecture, Captain Khaled Salmeen Al Ameri, Chief of the Rehabilitation and Training Section, honored Nada Zuhair Al Adeeb and Maha Al Nuaimi.

It is worth mentioning that the Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs sector had distributed food and nutrition awareness publications to mark the World Food Day, observed across the country on October 20.
