Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, December 6th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

The GCC Inmates’ Week held under the theme “Lead me to a Better Future” will be launched tomorrow Sunday December 7, and will continue through Thursday December 11.

Brigadier Hamad Adeel Al Shamesi, Director General of Correctional and Punitive Establishments at the Ministry of Interior and chairman of the Organizing Committee for the week’s activities, said that the Directorate General of Punitive and Correctional Establishments and its regional departments across the UAE have finished their preparations to mark the GCC Inmates Week that has been approved by the GCC Interior Ministers. “The main celebration will be taking place in Sharjah,” he revealed.

Brigadier Al Shamesi indicated that the GCC Inmates Week aims at spreading the culture of post-release care and the need to integrate former inmates into society. Furthermore, he urged the various society institutions to carry out the reform process, pointing out that families of inmates are guiltless victims. “This week’s events are also designed to integrate inmates into society through post-release care and make sure that those who have been reformed are not looked at by society in a negative way,” he added.

In conclusion, he noted that the week’s events include a number of sports and cultural activities and educational contests organized by the Ministry of Interior, represented by the Directorate General of Punitive and Correctional Establishments and other regional departments at the countrywide level. Moreover, and during the GCC Inmates’ Week this year and for the first time, the Directorate General of Correctional and Punitive Establishments is bringing in families from abroad to visit their loved ones in the various Punitive and Correctional Institutions across the UAE.
