Educational Segments about Traffic Points Programs during GCC Traffic Week

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, March 11th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

The Police Follow-up Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior is participating in the events of the 31st Unified GCC Traffic Week and will be providing educational segments regarding the Traffic Points Program. The events of the Traffic Week are being held at the Al Ain Mall and under the slogan “Your Choice Determines Your Destiny”.

Lieutenant Colonel Saif Obaid Al Khaili, Head of the Police Follow-up Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, explained that the participation in events for the Traffic Week falls under the strategy for awareness and education about the Federal Traffic Points Reduction Program. “There are two types of programs for drivers,” he said. “The first program is optional for drivers who wish to enroll in the program to reduce their black points. In this program, drivers can avoid the revocation of their licenses if they enroll in this program before reaching 24 black points. They can benefit from this program once a year, and will have the opportunity to have up to eight points reduced before reaching the cumulative limit of 24 points.

“The second program is compulsory for drivers holding permanent licenses and who have committed their third traffic violation that has led to the withdrawal of their licenses. Holders of temporary licenses must also enroll if they have reached the cumulative limit for the first time and have had their licenses withdrawn. Drivers of heavy vehicles who have been involved in accidents where any of the vehicles involved have overturned must enroll, alongside those who have run red lights, or who have passed other vehicles in areas where overtaking is restricted.”

Lieutenant Al Khaili urged drivers to exercise caution and to be concerned with safety. “The Traffic Points Reduction Programs aim to provide an opportunity for drivers to develop their driving skills,” he said. He additionally noted that the program was also intended to act as a catalyst for improving the behaviors of these drivers and to rehabilitate them through the provided lectures that remind participants of the dangers related to the violations that lead to the withdrawal of licenses.

Drivers wishing to register in the Traffic Points Program, or for those who may have questions regarding the program, may visit any of the headquarters for the Traffic and Patrols directorates and departments in the UAE; they may also visit the following website: www.adpolice.gov.ae/csd; or contact the following number 600566006.
