A Tourist Caught Begging from the CID

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Tuesday, March 17th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

In a bizarre incidence, an Asian tourist has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Abu Dhabi Police for begging from CID personnel in the parking lot of the CID building. According to Colonel Dr. Rashid Mohammad Borshid, Head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the beggar of Asian nationality identified as ‘M. Y’ age 23 years, was unaware that he was playing his vile trick and attempting to play on the emotions of CID staff by claiming to be sick.

“Displaying rare agility for someone who was using a device for urinary incontinence, the beggar was caught by surprise and tried to run away after he realized that that he was soliciting for money from CID officers. He was not able to escape, however, and the CID officers detained the suspect as soon as he approached an adjacent building. Upon questioning the suspect, we found AED 250 in his possession – which was the outcome of his begging. To aid in the manipulation of people’s emotions, he also confessed to buying the medical device for urinary incontinence at the pharmacy for AED 7,” he said.

The Head of the CID cautioned the public against the lies, deceptions, and scams that beggars use to play with people emotions in order to achieve their objectives and to abuse the enthusiastic nature of those who enjoy providing charitable deeds. He also urged the public to interact with the “No to Begging” campaign which has been implemented by the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. He called upon the community to “Cooperate with police entities by reporting beggars. The main priority of the police is to address this societal scourge through community partnership.”

The Ministry of Interior has allocated phone numbers to report beggars in Abu Dhabi by calling the Police Operations Room at 999, or the Aman Service at 8002626.
