A total of 70 personnel from the Abu Dhabi Police have completed their training in psychological support and mental preparedness against the potential negative consequences that may result following a major accident. The training serves to ensure a high level of readiness for the staff members and to provide them with the necessary preventive methods in such incidents.
Colonel Mohammed Ibrahim Al Ameri, Head of the Emergency and Public Safety Department at Abu Dhabi Police, stressed that the department strives to motivate the emergency staff members and to ensure their safety in a manner that enables them to address all incidents in their various forms. “Due to their exposure to the risks and conditions of major accidents, it is extremely important to provide psychological support for this segment in order to address the potential negative impacts that follow such incidents,” he said. Furthermore, Colonel Al Ameri pointed out that the ongoing rehabilitation and training is to enhance the capabilities of its staff members, is conducted in accordance with the best international practices, and falls within the scope of the strategy of the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters (GHQ).
The training consists of two courses in psychological support and mental preparedness for emergency and major accidents crews, organized by the Emergency and Public Safety Department. The trainees were also introduced to the importance of the needs of those suffering from post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD) following a major accident. Moreover, the program highlighted the ethics and responsibility of field emergency crews when dealing with such accidents.
