… Attends Children Book Signing

Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior also attended a book signing event by his son, HH Sheikh Zayed bin Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the booklet titled “The ABCs of Child Legal Education,” as part of the cultural activities of the Ministry of Interior at Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF). The booklet is the first publication of its kind and depicts the law concept using a cartoon figure.

HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed also attended a book signing event by HH Sheikh Zayed bin Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the latter’s booklet “African Journey;” a book signing event by HH Sheikh Zayed bin Ahmad bin Zayed Al Nahyan of his booklet “Civil Defense Friend;” and a book signing event by HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan representing Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, of her booklet “Generosity Palm.”

The “African Journey” booklet by HH Sheikh Zayed bin Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan sheds light on the African nature and its plains’ richness with many magnificent creatures and animals. The story brings children closer to nature through an interesting and memorable journey to Africa to develop their intellectual and investigative skills. In his book “Civil Defense Friend”, HH Sheikh Zayed bin Ahmad bin Zayed Al Nahyan focuses on developing children awareness and teaching them what to do when they detect smoke or fire. The book also highlights the aid and rescue efforts exerted by Civil Defense members, and educates children on Civil Defense tasks and duties in an age-appropriate appealing style.

The story “Generosity Palm” authored by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan stresses the fact that happiness can be achieved by bringing happiness to others, which is possible just by reaching out to help them. This vision embodies the will of the Founding Father, the Late HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan who once said “When you help make others happier, happiness will come to you." After the book signing ceremony, their highnesses dedicated their books to children present at ADIBF in order to encourage spreading the culture of law and knowledge in society. They also took commemorative photos with the children.

Through the booklet “The ABCs of Child Legal Education,” published by the Law Respect Culture Bureau, at the General Secretariat of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Centre, HH Sheikh Zayed bin Saif Al Nahyan aims to send a legal message to all children in the UAE and to encourage them to seek further excellence and leadership. This would enable children to meet the expectations of their leadership, which considers them as a beacon of hope in a future generation of men and women who are loyal to the UAE; who respect the law, strive to ensure progress and prosperity for the UAE, and carry on the proud endeavors of the country’s forefathers.

Colonel Dr. Salah Obeid Al Ghoul, Director of Law Respect Culture Bureau said: “‘The ABCs of Child Legal Education’ booklet is the first publication of its kind and is designed to get the legal message through to children in a simple language that suits the 6-12 age groups. It teaches children the real meaning of the basic legal vocabulary they may overhear; and teaches them how to apply them in their daily life.”

“This age group is the most fitted or qualified to learn the basic concepts of law respect culture. To this end, the Law Respect Culture Bureau is keen to instill this culture in them at an early age, to build their legal personality, so that law respect becomes an integral part of their behavior,” he added.

For his part, Major Dr. Mohammed Khalifa Al Ali, Director of the Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Centre, pointed out the importance of educating children about law principles and the law’s role in protecting them, which would significantly contribute to the psychological maturity of children. He also noted that civil society institutions work closely to implement rules and regulations that were originally formulated to achieve full protection of all society individuals since early on in life.

Milan Sharif, Legal Researcher at the Law Respect Culture Bureau, and author of “The ABCs of Child Legal Education” booklet, explained that the book focused on presenting the law concept as a child-appealing cartoon figure, which uses a simple child-appropriate language to communicate with children. Children can randomly select a letter between A and Z and learn a legal or ethical value. Each letter includes a short story by which the cartoon figure speaks to the child and engages his subconscious, which is still undergoing its development, in order to instill a noble concept or value that helps build the child’s personality positively; which is the ultimate goal of societies. She added that this approach would teach children that the law in general, and especially law enforcement officers, have a duty to ensure the best quality of life for society by protecting individuals and their public and personal interests.

Ms. Sharif also said that this version is the first in a series of legal publications intended to teach children the legal vocabulary and ethical values through the alphabet. Additionally, she explained that a team is currently working to stage a play for children based on the book. The play will be performed on school stages, as of next year, in order to allow the largest number of children to benefit from the content of the book.
