Major General Dr. Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Child Protection at the Ministry of Interior, inaugurated the “Safe Childhood, Promising Future” Forum at the Abu Dhabi Police Officers Club. The Forum falls within the framework of the awareness campaign organized by the Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Center during the month of April under the slogan: “Together to Prevent Child Abuse.”

Major General Dr. Al Nuaimi called for strengthening awareness amongst all community segments, especially children who are highly vulnerable to the dangers they may encounter; and reiterated the MoI’s commitment to protect children against all kinds of abuse and neglect.

Adding further, he said: “Child protection against all types of dangers and abuse is a shared responsibility that begins at home, with good parenting; hence the importance of raising public awareness on the need to prevent child abuse and neglect.”

Major General Dr. Al Nuaimi also underlined the diligent efforts of the Ministry of Interior related to child protection, by establishing the necessary policies and strategies, and endeavoring to promote awareness amongst all community segments about the proper ways to protect children against potential risks. He also reiterated the MoI’s keenness to investigate child abuse cases in collaboration with the competent authorities.

For his part, Major Dr. Mohammed Khalifa Al Ali, Director of the Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Centre, noted that the Forum aims at spreading awareness to provide safety and security to all children living and visiting in the UAE.

He also noted that the forum, which targets MoI staff members and members of the education sector, hosts an elite group of experts and specialists in the field of child protection. “The specialists tackled the various psychological, social, and medical aspects related to child protection, and shared their valuable expertise and information, creating an interesting interactive dialogue with the audience,” he continued.

The “Safe Childhood, Promising Future” Forum also witnessed panel discussions that support the efforts to prevent child abuse and come up with effective scientific solutions to such abuse. The Forum also tackled the psychological effects of child abuse, as well as treatment and prevention methods.
