Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Friday, May 22nd 2015 [ME NewsWire]
In cooperation with the Transport and Workshops Department at the Ministry of Interior, the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense General Directorate carried out a successful mock drill to extinguish a “fire” and evacuate staff at the department’s technical workshop. This comes in line with the constant and unrelenting efforts to boost the efficiency and capability of the various national institutions and entities in dealing with fires, control them, and evacuate in emergency situations. It is also designed to assess the readiness, preparedness and efficiency of the security and safety teams operating within the various companies across the country in handling incidents and emergencies, and to promote better coordination with various competent departments and institutions.
Teams from Al Qubesat Civil Defense Station and the Ambulance Section took part in the drill, along with patrols from the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police; the Security Media Patrols; and the Emirates Fire and Rescue Company. Brigadier Colonel Hamad Khamis Al Dhaheri, Deputy Director General of Finance and Services at the Ministry of Interior, supervised the mock drill.
As per the scenario, the Operations Room received a tip-off on the outbreak of the “fire” at 9:00 am. As soon as the fire alarm sounded, emergency teams immediately rushed to the site and evacuated the building in record time, pending the arrival of the competent police entities, the Civil Defense and backup entities that handled the incident efficiently. All employees were evacuated from the workshop and ambulance and rescue crews provided first aid care to two people who were injured in the accident.
