Attracting Emirati Job Seekers Wishing to Work at Abu Dhabi Police

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Friday, June 19th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

By adopting occupational development programs, the community police project, and by taking part in job fairs, the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters managed to attract and recruit a large number of competent male and female Emiratis. The police pursue further efforts to attract university and high school graduates to explore the rewarding job opportunities at the various police sections.

Brigadier Obeid Salem Rashid Ali Al Ketbi, Director General of Human Resources at Abu Dhabi Police, stressed the Abu Dhabi Police’s keenness to build a qualitative cadre of competent Emiratis to take up important positions in the country’s institutions, and carry out their assigned duties efficiently. He said: “This approach reflects the firm belief of the police leadership in the importance of Emiratisation within the policing sector on the local and federal levels, and falls in line with the government’s prudent directives to support transformation towards a sustainable knowledge-based economy led by national competencies. It also stems out of the UAE belief that human capital is the cornerstone of a balanced development process.”

Adding further, he noted: “The Human Resources Planning Department at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters has established a committee, in response to the requirements stipulated by the Abu Dhabi Tawteen Council, and the Abu Dhabi Executive Council. The committee has been given the necessary authority to drive the Emiratisation process forward across all of the departments. The committee will also be mandated with the task of establishing the plans and applicable solutions to create qualitative career opportunities and to reduce dependence on expatriate workers with a low skill level at the Abu Dhabi Police’s various departments.”

Additionally, Brigadier Al Ketbi said that one of the important practical measures adopted was scholarship students with the Emiratisation scheme to recruit competent Emiratis for specialized, technical, medical, and engineering career opportunities. “This is achieved by granting police staff members full scholarships to universities and colleges in the UAE and abroad, in accordance with the Emiratisation needs at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters. After graduation, members will be assigned to the organizational units that are included in the Emiratisation plan,” he continued.

Furthermore Brigadier Al Ketbi noted: “We have launched the Tawteen Initiative, a specialized training program designed for new recruits and targets both civil and military staff members. This program aims to increase recruits’ awareness about the fundamental components of Abu Dhabi Police, such as the organizational structure; the main duties and rights of employees; the code of conduct; police ethics of the MoI members; as well as the different methodologies and initiatives at the Abu Dhabi Police.”

He also stressed the leadership’s support for the Emiratisation scheme, and its commitment to support all of the police departments to adopt succession planning programs, by conducting direct visits to police departments. “This aims to spread the Emiratisation culture among key leadership positions, and to put this culture into action to reinforce Emiratisation at the targeted departments and provide job opportunities for Emiratis at these departments,” he said. He also noted that a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters and the Abu Dhabi Tawteen Council, in order to boost cooperation between both parties to effectively assimilate the UAE national workforce, support Emiratisation efforts and provide more career opportunities to Emiratis in order to meet the requirements of the UAE labor market competently.

Furthermore, Brigadier Al Ketbi indicated that honoring distinguished organizational units in recognition of their Emiratisation efforts was one of the key supporting initiatives to reinforce Emiratisation at Abu Dhabi Police, and to create a competitive spirit among the various organizational units to further encourage them to recruit competent Emiratis in order to drive Emiratisation and succession planning efforts.

In conclusion, Brigadier Al Ketbi said that an annual e-survey was circulated to assess the effects of Emiratisation on advancing overall performance, and to avail of the results, recommendations, and suggestions to advance and enhance the work of the Emiratisation committee. He also stressed the importance of embracing modern technology and to spread knowledge in order to reduce the UAE dependence on unskilled expatriate workers; advance competitiveness on the UAE level; and create quality Emiratisation opportunities.
