The Abu Dhabi Civil Defense Director General’s Ramadan Tournament kicked off yesterday evening, Sunday. The tournament is organized by the General Directorate of Abu Dhabi Civil Defense for the fourth consecutive year, and includes competitions in football, volleyball, tug-of-war, and a civil defense officers’ challenge.

The tournament consists of 12 competitor teams in football – which will be held at the Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi; six volleyball teams; four teams in the tug-of-war; and 22 participants in the civil defense officers’ challenge (for the fastest civil defense team to put on the full firefighting gear). A joint team from the Ras Al Khaimah Police and Um Al Quwain Police arrested a Gulf national in possession of 35,000 narcotic pills and 6 kilograms of hashish that he had smuggled via the Ras Al Darah border post in Ras Al Khaimah.

In a statement from the Ministry of Interior (MoI), the Anti-Narcotics Department at the Ras Al Khaimah Police had received a confirmed tip-off about a Gulf national who had managed to smuggle drugs into the UAE via the Ras Al Darah border post. The suspect was planning to sell and deliver the drugs to two other Arabs residing in the UAE.

In coordination with the customs officers at the Al Darah border post, the police searched the vehicle as if naturally facilitating transit procedures in order to avoid arousing the suspicion of the suspect.
