Abu Dhabi Community Police Wins the Swimming Championship

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, May 2nd 2015 [ME NewsWire]

The Department of Community Police at Abu Dhabi Police was crowned champion of the 14th Swimming Championship, followed by the Government and Diplomatic Premises Protection Department in second place and the Western Region (Al Gharbia) Police Directorate in third place.

The championship, which is part of the sporting program for the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, was organized by the Sports Activity Section at the Strategy and Performance Development Department, and was held at the Abu Dhabi Police Officers Club’s swimming pool. A total of 12 departments took part in the championship, which included five different competitions: 50 meters freestyle, 50 meters backstroke, 100 meters freestyle, 50 meters freestyle relay race.

During the ceremony organized to reward the winners, Colonel Abdul Rahman Al Hammadi, Head of the Criminal Evidence Department at the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, stressed the importance of physical activity and sports in developing   the skills of police members; in a way that positively impacts their mental and intellectual activity and enhances their professional performance.

For his part, Colonel Mohammed bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, Strategy and Performance Development Director General at the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, highlighted the importance of this championship in strengthening social ties amongst Abu Dhabi Police staff members and boosting their morale; so as to enhance the level of police performance.

As a part of the Abu Dhabi Police’s sports championships that were held throughout the month of April 2015, the Women’s Volleyball Open Championship was held. The results were as follows: the Information Department was crowned champion after defeating the Personnel Department team which came in second place; while Aishah bint Abi Bakr Secondary School team came in third place.

A total of seven teams from the different departments of Abu Dhabi Police GHQ and the host school’s teams took part in the championship, which was held at the Aisha Bint Abi Baker Secondary School’s sports court.

In the Futsal Championship, eight teams progressed to the quarter finals within four groups. The first group included the Community Police Department team with a score of 12 points and the Traffic and Patrols Directorate team with nine points. The second group included the Directorate General of Guards and Special Tasks team with 10 points and the Al Ain Police Directorate team (eight points). The third group included the Operations Department team with nine points and the Emergency and Public Safety Department team with six points. The fourth group included the Government and Diplomatic Premises Protection Department and the Western Region (Al Gharbia) Police Directorate teams with 10 points each.

The championship’s activities were attended by Captain Jamal Al Saadi, National Teams and Competitions Branch Manager and a number of Abu Dhabi Police’s staff members.
