Headed by Brigadier Ghaith Hassan Al Zaabi, Director General, Traffic Coordination General Directorate at the Ministry of Interior (MoI), a delegation from the UAE participated in the 33rd Meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Traffic General Directors, which was recently hosted in the Saudi capital of Riyadh, between the 8 -12th May.
The meeting implements the directives of Their Highnesses and Their Excellencies the GCC Ministers of Interior to double the efforts being made to realize the objectives of GCC leaders and best interests of their citizens to achieve a safe traffic environment in the GCC countries.
The Meeting tackled a number of topics related to traffic safety in the GCC, including strategic awareness procedures; the joint awareness strategy; linking traffic violation data between the GCC states; systems and devices that track driver behaviors; standardizing the permissible levels of vehicle glass tinting in the GCC countries; as well as discussing various papers submitted by member states.
Brigadier Al Zaabi noted that the Meeting strengthened mutual cooperation in achieving traffic safety among the GCC states, for the benefit of their citizens. The Meeting also facilitated members in reviewing and discussing several crucial issues that contribute to achieving a quantum leap in reinforcing cooperation and prompting coordination, so that the traffic systems can be upgraded to the best possible levels and the aspirations of people in the region can be met.
The MoI delegation included Brigadier Khamis Ishaq Mohammed, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police; Brigadier Mohammed Mayouf Al Ketbi, Head of Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department at the Abu Dhabi Police; Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of the General Department of Traffic in Dubai; Colonel Ali Rashid bin Awash, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department in Fujairah; Colonel Barakat Yaakoub Al Kendi, from the ICT Department at Abu Dhabi Police; and a number of officers from the MoI.
