The Ministry of Interior Council, hosted by UAE national Al Muta’ared Saif Al Afari at his residence in Al Ain, tackled the services and challenges of the traffic and licensing sector. The council highlighted the Ministry of Interior’s efforts in implementing the best practices in the traffic sector in a bid to achieve the highest levels of traffic safety on the roads according to the finest international standards.

This council is part of the awareness councils organized by the Law Respect Culture Bureau in cooperation with the Security Media Department at the Security Support General Directorate at the General Secretariat of the Office of His Highness Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. The council discussed the most important challenges faced by the traffic and licensing sector, notably young people below the legal driving age, driving without driving licenses; excessive speed by drivers; and non-compliance with traffic laws.

Participants in the council tackled the myriad of services provided by the Vehicles’ Licensing sector via the Ministry of Interior’s application on smart phones ‘UAE-MOI’ and the easy and simple way to access these services. They also discussed the temporary driving license granted to drivers between 18 and 21 years of age, which is renewed on a yearly basis, in addition to the role of radars in maintaining traffic safety on roads.

The council stressed the need to comply with traffic safety systems and traffic laws, and to carry out regular technical inspection to ensure the good condition of vehicles. Participants in the council also stressed the need for parents to supervise their children and prevent them from driving if they have not attained the age of majority to have a driving license; and stressed the need to promote traffic awareness through various media channels.
