Ministry of Interior Council in Al Ain Discusses Naturalization and Residency Services

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Friday, December 18th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

Participants at the Ministry of Interior’s Council called for concerted efforts between all competent authorities and local community in order in order to address the issue of illegal infiltrators and offender residents. They also called for unifying visa application procedures at the different Naturalization and Residency departments across the country. The Council was hosted by Saeed Muhammad Khalaf Al Rumaithi at his residence in Al Ain under the theme ‘Naturalization and Residency Sector’s Services and Challenges’.

Participants also called for reinforcing awareness amongst citizens and residents alike on the need to cooperate with competent authorities and to report violators of the residency laws, as well as other negative behaviors. They also called for increasing coordination between the Ministries of Interior and Labor with domestic workers recruitment agencies. This contributes to achieving social safety and security.

The Council, which was moderated by media figure Rashid Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Head of the Al Khaleej Newspaper Office in Al Ain, is part of the series of awareness councils organized by the Law Respect Culture Bureau, in cooperation with the Security Media Department at the General Directorate of Security Support at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.

In his speech at the council, Brigadier Abdullah Ali Al Hosani, Deputy Director General of Ports and Airports at the Naturalization Residency, and Ports Affairs, asserted that the strategic objectives of the Naturalization, Residency, and Ports Sector include providing distinguished high-quality services to customers, both citizens and residents. “The sector endeavors to streamline the delivery of procedures and services to community members, and to allow them to complete their transactions rapidly according to the best practices and standards,” he continued.

Brigadier Al Hosani also showcased the various services provided by the Naturalization, Residency, and Ports Sector to the public; notably issuance of passports, family books and birth registration. “Such services are also available across all of the service centers outside of the Naturalization Department, not to mention the e-services provided via smart applications,” he indicated. Furthermore, he pointed out to the services provided for the elderly and people with special needs, such as the ‘Closer to You’ service, dedicated to cater to the needs of this segment of society. The service aims to provide seniors and people with special needs with streamlined high-end services; including dispatching a competent team of staff members to complete their transactions from the convenience of their homes, without having to visit the centers, thus saving them hardship and efforts. He also noted that the Naturalization and Residency Department offers services to residents, including visa permits, residency renewal, and other transactions.

Colonel Taleb Abdul Karim Al Mahmud, Head of the Federal Violators and Foreigners Affairs Department, tackled the challenges facing the Naturalization, Residency, and Ports Sector, notably, reinforcing efforts to limit violators of the residency laws. He said: “The UAE is the preferred destination for job seekers and investors. Prospects of better earning opportunities cause workers to abscond their sponsors and violate visa laws. This requires the competent authorities to double the efforts in its ongoing fight against violators.”

For his part, Major Ibrahim Al Mamari, Chief of the Violators and Foreigners Affairs Section in Al Ain, noted that the vast majority of community members fully comply with the entry and residency laws. However, the small minority of violators of the residency laws are an issue of great concern to all concerned. He called upon community members not to sympathize with violators in order to preserve their own security and safety, and to avoid legal accountability in case of hiring this category.

Towards the end of the Council, Saeed Muhammad Khalaf Al Rumaithi praised the efforts of the Ministry of Interior across the various security sectors, including the Naturalization, Residency, and Ports Sector. He valued the efforts exerted to provide high-quality services to citizens and residents, as well as to fight negative behaviors that threaten security and stability in society.
