Dubai Internet City showcases latest in Smart Technology Solutions at GITEX 2014

DIC partners with industry giant Intel, as well as leading players in smart technology and solutions

Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, October 12th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

Dubai Internet City (DIC), the Middle East and North Africa’s largest ICT hub and strategic partner for GITEX for the 15th consecutive year, today unveiled the latest in smart innovations and digital technology at GITEX 2014, in the presence of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.

In line with Dubai’s wider smart initiatives, TECOM Investment’s new business partner services platform simplified to deliver a smart user experience, AXS, launched today at DIC’s pavilion. This online service will provide business partners with government, employee and corporate services under one umbrella.

As part of DIC’s ongoing support for its business partners, industry giant and key business partner Intel is showcasing its latest smart Internet of Things (IoT) innovations at DIC’s pavilion, including Smart Buildings Solutions and the latest technology for Costa Coffee, a new coffee machine ‘Costa Express’. IoT, a growing trend in the technology and ICT sector, will be worth $1.9 trillion by 2020 according to Gartner.

Commenting, Majed Al Suwaidi, Managing Director of Dubai Internet City and Dubai Outsource Zone said;

“GITEX 2014 provides an ideal platform for industry leaders as well as local talent and entrepreneurs to come together to share ideas and gain a further insight into the industry, and we are delighted to have key business partners exhibiting with us this year, who are pioneering smart solutions across the region.

“It was 15 years ago that His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced the creation of Dubai Internet City, at GITEX 1999, in an ambition to transform the UAE’s commercial landscape and develop a vibrant knowledge-economy. Over the last 15 years, we have attracted some of the biggest names in the industry, and the UAE’s ICT market has seen exponential growth, as highlighted by the technologies being showcased this week.”

in5 members TaskSpotting and Crowd Analyser are also exhibiting alongside DIC, and will be analysing social media and online conversation throughout the course of the week.

TaskSpotting, the first app in the UAE that offers cash rewards for tasks, is carrying out missions that gather information that is interesting to all visitors to the stand, with the results showcased at the DIC pavilion.

Crowd Analyser, a social media monitoring start-up which analyses the conversation on social media about brands and trends and shares insights on ways to engage with customers, is showcasing their technology and providing real time analysis, including what is trending about GITEX; the data is segmented by nationalities, top topics and other key segments.

Majed Al Suwaidi said;

“The UAE has the highest smartphone penetration in the world, at 78%, according to a recent study by the World Economic Forum, and has ranked first among Arab states in mobile network coverage. Start-ups and entrepreneurs are increasingly taking advantage of this space, and we have seen a real growth in the number of technology start-ups and app developers across Dubai and the region.

“At in5 we provide support to our members from the creation of an idea right through to the launch of a product or service, and today’s start-ups are testament to the success that can be achieved with the right support and framework.”

DIC is also hosting the largest 4k transparent table, the latest in smart solutions delivered by Paravision, which includes an interactive timeline for Dubai Internet City and Dubai, and allows visitors to interact with social media. This is in line with the latest Smart initiatives by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

A social media competition is running throughout the course of GITEX on DIC’s pavilion, where entrants have the chance to win prizes sponsored by Clear Trip, Souq and Canon. Any selfie taken at DIC’s stand, tweeted using the hashtags #DICWIN and @DIC_COMMUNITY will automatically enter a draw, to win one of several prizes.
