LAS VEGAS - Friday, January 8th 2016 [ME NewsWire]
(BUSINESS WIRE)-- CES, one of the world's premier consumer electronics expos, took place in the city of Las Vegas from January 6 to 9, 2016. The expo saw approximately 3,600 exhibitors, including 186 from Taiwan. As the Economist forecast a 2.5% growth for the U.S. economy in the year 2016, approximately the same as 2015 and higher than the majority of developed nations, it is expected that the sales figures at CES will be boosted.
Official CES data show that this year, there was a total of 186 Taiwanese exhibitors at the event, led by star Taiwanese manufacturers including ASUS, ACER, HTC, D-Link, Adata, GOGORO and SERCOMM. The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) delegation, led by Deputy Secretary-General Yeh Ming-shui, set up three themed booths at the event: the COMPUTEX d&i awards Booth (in the LVCC Pavilion), the Selected Taiwanese Products Booth (inside the Westgate Pavilion) and the "Smart Wow" Booth (inside the Sands Pavilion). These three booths comprehensively represented Taiwan's technological innovation capabilities and also served the purpose of promoting COMPUTEX Taipei 2016.
This year’s CES focused on in-vehicle technologies, virtual reality and "smart" lifestyle. The display of innovative technologies that will completely change the way consumers live, work and play is expected to further boost the Internet of Things (IoT) wave. In particular, the number of exhibitors showcasing unmanned aerial vehicles at CES rose from 16 in 2015 to 27 this year. At the same time, "Eureka Park", the zone set up for startups and crowdfunding campaigns, gathered 500 exhibitors from 29 countries, including Israel, France, the Netherlands, and Taiwan, a significant increase from the figure of 375 the year before. Over half of these exhibitors were from outside the United States, a clear sign that technological innovation is taking place at a rapid clip around the world.
With one of the key themes for COMPUTEX Taipei 2016 being "Startups and Innovation", CES was the perfect platform for TAITRA to make contact with innovative teams from all over the world and to invite them to exhibit at COMPUTEX Taipei 2016 as part of the preparatory efforts for the new InnoVEX exhibition zone.
At the same time, TAITRA also made full use of the opportunity to promote COMPUTEX Taipei 2016. With the assistance of Taiwan Trade Center, Los Angeles, on the eve of CES (January 5) TAITRA held a COMPUTEX Taipei press conference at the five-star Encore Hotel in Las Vegas. A total of over 60 media representatives from 11 countries attended the press conference, including representatives from established outlets such as Business Wire, Nikkei and HIS, as well as representatives from emerging social media players. Media representatives in attendance expressed strong interests in and agreement with the new positioning of COMPUTEX Taipei, and eagerly sought more information on the upcoming new InnoVEX exhibition zone and confirmed exhibitors. In addition, the interview with TAITRA Deputy Secretary-General Yeh Ming-shui was also uploaded immediatley by a vlogger, thereby providing real-time updates for the COMPUTEX Taipei event.
At the press conference, Deputy Secretary-General Yeh noted that in response to the growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) and interdisciplinary apps around the world, COMPUTEX Taipei 2016 has been positioned with the theme "Building Partnerships in Internet Computing Ecosystems", focusing on three key areas, namely IoT applications, startups and innovation, and commercial solutions.
To ensure a strong focus on IoT applications and to showcase the innovations of Taiwanese and overseas startups and other tech firms, and in line with industry trends, two new exhibition zones will make their debut at COMPUTEX Taipei 2016: "SmarTEX" and "InnoVEX". At the press conference, TAITRA's COMPUTEX executive team presented briefings on the competitive advantages of Taiwan's ICT and semiconductor industries and the development of IoT technologies on the island. At the same time, in order to help foreign media representatives better understand the transformation of COMPUTEX Taipei, the team also provided a preview of the theme and exhibitors & exhibits of COMPUTEX Taipei 2016.
TAITRA also showcased 72 COMPUTEX d&i awards-winning products in 9 categories, which were all innovative designed-in-Taiwan IT and IoT products, in an open style. The COMPUTEX d&i awards were jointly presented by TAITRA and iF, a renowned German design company. The booth allowed visitors to interact with those products, creating an enhanced experience for the visitors.
