During the Ministry of Interior’s Council titled “Civilized Driving”, participants emphasized the need to abide by traffic laws and observe the legal speed limits on roads. The council, which was hosted by Saeed Mubarak bin Ayedh Al Ketbi at his residence in the city of Al Ain, stressed the important role of the family in support of the efforts exerted by the Ministry of Interior to provide traffic safety.

The council, which moderated by media personality Rashid Al Nuaimi, Editor-in-Chief of Al Khaleej Newspaper in Al Ain, comes as a part of the year-long awareness councils organized by the Law Respect Culture Bureau in cooperation with the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. The participants stressed the important role of the community in curbing street racing; show-off stunts, recklessness driving, nuisance and driving without a driving license.

In his address at the council, Colonel Jamal Salem Al Ameri, Chief of Public Relations Section at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, Abu Dhabi Police reviewed the main traffic safety indicators in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the rates of traffic accidents and their causes based on a statistical analysis of serious injuries and deaths by age groups.

Additionally, Colonel Al Ameri presented real footage of traffic accidents, with detailed explanation, with the aim of sending awareness-raising messages about the risks associated with traffic accidents, notably the risks of using mobile phones while driving; driving recklessly; jumping the red light; exceeding legal speed limits; and failing to use the seat belt. Furthermore, Colonel Al Ameri emphasized the importance of being cautious and focused while driving.

For his part, Major Matar Abdullah Al Muhairi, Acting Chief of the Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Section, highlighted the major causes behind traffic accidents in Al Ain city and the violations leading to such accidents. Furthermore, Major Al Muhairi listed the major traffic accidents that occurred in the city of Al Ain and the different traffic violations often made by drivers.

Participants in the council called for parents to monitor their children, as well as to advise them to abide by traffic laws and designated speed limits, to avoid reckless driving and without a driving license; all of which may expose them to tragic traffic accidents.

On the same note, participants underlined that traffic safety is a shared duty and responsibility that requires joint action and concerted efforts between the different public entities and community members to encourage motorists and pedestrians; especially the youth, to act responsibly towards themselves and others by complying with traffic laws and speed limits designated on internal and external roads.

The participants also reviewed examples of non-civilized road behaviors, such as carrying out dangerous stunts with cars and motorcycles and practicing drifting during youth gatherings. The council also commended the efforts of traffic officers who work around the clock to maintain the welfare of society. They noted that Traffic Investigation officers monitor illegal gatherings in search for individuals who may perform dangerous stunts with their vehicles and motorcycles on the road. They will show no leniency towards violators of the law, and warn of arrest and strict legal action against them, for their own safety and the safety of other road users.

Towards the end of the Council, Saeed Mubarak bin Ayedh Al Ketbi, the host of the council, praised the efforts of the Ministry of Interior to communicate and interact with various segments of the community, who in turn must support those efforts.
