Abu Dhabi Police Win First Place in the Khalifa Award for Education "Land of Innovation"

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, January 3rd 2016 [ME NewsWire]

The Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters won first place in the Khalifa Award for Education “Land of Innovation” that was organized by the General Secretariat of the Award at its headquarters in Abu Dhabi. The award was received by Major Muhammad Ismail Al Harmoudi, Director of the Innovation Center at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. The Center landed the Award for the ‘child car protection seat’.

Eng. Osama Ahmed Ismail, inventor of the device, from the Directorate General of Central Operations at the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ said: “Winning this prestigious award encourages us to exert further efforts as a part of the innovation process adopted by the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters.” He also praised the directives of the police leadership and its unrelenting and ongoing support to encourage staff members to create and innovate in all areas of policing and security work, in a way that would serve society and maintain lives and property.

The device includes high-tech features to ensure protection of children in vehicles. Work is currently underway to further develop the system and to install it in school buses across the UAE.

Eng. Osama also explained that the device includes an electronic chip embedded in the vehicle’s electronic control system. It provides protection for children who are accidentally left behind in a hot car. It connects with the parents’ phone and provides oxygen to the child via automatic control.

He said: “The device starts operating as soon as the driver steps out of the car. Five minutes later, the system automatically pairs with the parents’ phone to notify them that their child is still in his or her seat. If they fail to return to the vehicle on time, the system initiates second phase by automatically lowering the vehicle's rear windows to let in some air, then switches on the air conditioning. If the parent has still not returned after a few minutes, after he or she left the car - the device sets off a loud alarm after he or she left the car - the gadget sets off a loud alarm and the vehicle’s lights to attract the attention of passers-by, thus contributing to promptly saving the child.

He also noted that the device has already received preliminary local and international patent approvals and has obtained several awards, notably from "Ideas UK" and "Ideas America".
