Abu Dhabi Police Discuss Ways to Promote Stadium Security with the UAE Pro League Committee

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, October 11th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

Abu Dhabi Police and the UAE Pro League Committee (PLC) discussed the optimal ways and mechanisms to promote stadium security during the games, and to approve a set of general guidelines, prior to initiating the Law on the Security of Sports Facilities and Events.

To this end, Brigadier Fares Khalifa Al Farsi, Director General of Guards and Special Tasks and Chairman of the Stadium Security Committee, met with PLC representative at the Directorate General of Guards and Special Tasks’ Headquarters. The meeting was held to promote security cooperation between both parties and achieve the highest security standards for football games based on the FIFA requirements.

Brigadier Al Farsi said that the meeting focused on ensuring coordination, communication, and security cooperation between the police and the PLC, and following up on the workflow. Other topics on the agenda included review of the procedures related to stadium security, such as allowing access to sports venues two hours before the games, provided that qualified private security companies ensure a sufficient number of security guards to search persons and vehicles under the supervision of the police.

Brigadier Al Farsi also noted that the match commissioner and the stadium security officer are in charge of monitoring whatever happens across the stadium benches.. “It is also the duty of the match commissioner, the club administration and the private security companies to prevent any attempts to sneak contraband items into the stadium pending the arrival of the police,” he added.

Brigadier Al Farsi called upon club administrations to ensure the efficiency of the private security companies and to make sure that theyequip the stadiums with a sufficient number of security guards during the games. He also urged the PLC to follow up on these procedures. He also hailed the experience of Al Ain, Al Wahda, Al Ahli and Al Wasl clubs in providing their personal security up to 80%; noting that security readiness of some clubs is at 50%.

Adding further, he said, “Security of players on the field and within the stadium’s facilities falls under the responsibility of the club administration, under the supervision of the PLC. If for some reason, someone needed to be escorted out of the stadium, the club management should follow up on the procedure, in cooperation with the private security companies; any misconduct on behalf of the concerned person entitles the club administration to call the police.

The meeting was also attended by Major Mohamed Sultan Al Ketbi from Umm Al Quwain Police; Major Sulaiman Al Zaabi from Sharjah Police; Captain Abdulla Tarish Al Amimi from Dubai Police; Captain Mohamed Hussein Al Shamsi from Ajman Police; Lieutenant Mohamed Ali Al Shamili from RAK Police; Lieutenant Saleh Obaid Al Zaabi from Al Fujairah Police; and Senior Executive Mohamed Basel from PLC.
