Abu Dhabi Police Arrest Bus Driver for Drug Possession

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, September 13th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

The Abu Dhabi Police have arrested a bus driver on suspicion of possessing heroin, marijuana, and crystal meth, according to Colonel Dr. Rashid Mohammad Borshid, Head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Abu Dhabi Police.

Col. Borshid said: “The success of this operation complements the chain of successes that Abu Dhabi Police have had in thwarting drug dealers.”

He stated that the suspect, identified as “Q. H. H.”, a 36-year-old Pakistani, admitted to drug possession with the intent to sell. The suspect allegedly claimed that he was waiting for a phone call from outside of the UAE in order to deliver the narcotics to an unidentified buyer.

The report indicated that in addition to his job as a bus driver, the driver conducted illegal activities by possessing drugs in order to generate more income.

Providing further details, Col. Borshid said that after following the necessary legal measures, the suspect was apprehended as he was still in his work uniform and leaving his bus in the Musaffah Industrial Area in Abu Dhabi. Referencing the initial stages of the incident, Col. Borshid said that the police received information regarding a person that was in the possession of drugs. A professional team was then formed and immediately prepared a security plan in order to apprehend the suspect and thwart the drug deal.

He added that the suspect had been caught with rolls of foil containing marijuana and crystal meth in his pocket. Upon further questioning, Col. Borshid said that the suspect admitted to possessing additional narcotics in his home and intended to sell them. The search revealed 336 capsules of heroin weighing 3 kilograms, in addition to 25 plastic rolls containing a transparent, crystalline substance suspected to be the narcotic crystal meth. The search team also confiscated a sensitive metal scale, which was used to weigh and distribute specific amounts of the drug.

The Director of the CID hailed the joint cooperation of the concerned authorities of the general police headquarters and the work team comprised of anti-narcotics personnel. This cooperation and coordination led to the success of each role being carried out in a highly efficient and professional manner, and reflected the motivation and keenness to fulfill their duties with the highest levels of performance and responsibility. “It is through this effective coordination that we were able to arrest the bus driver suspected of possessing drugs and shatter his dreams of obtaining counterfeit wealth,” he said.
