297 Pilgrim Buses Traveled Round-Trip Across International Road

Abu Dhabi Traffic Intensified Field Outreach Efforts

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, October 12th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police intensified its field campaign to ensure the safety of pilgrims. The campaign concluded on Sunday without any recorded traffic accidents involving buses that carried pilgrims inside of and outside of the UAE. A total number of 297 recorded buses traveled safely back and forth along the international Abu Dhabi- Al Ghuwaifat road after performing the Hajj rituals this year.
Colonel Hamad Nasser Al Bloushi, Head of Peripheral Regions Traffic Department, Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, attributed these positive results to the exerted efforts of the “Your Safety” campaign that was implemented by the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and in cooperation with the directorate, to ensure traffic safety for the pilgrims traveling by road.
He said, “The directorate has implemented a comprehensive plan for the safety of pilgrims during this Hajj season by intensifying the control of external roads and by providing tent locations for the pilgrims at the Al Ghuwaifat border. We also spread awareness among drivers through traffic education patrols and through the provision of guidelines and awareness publications in order to foster the safety of the pilgrims along their journey to and from the holy land.”
Additionally, Colonel Al Bloushi indicated that the plan included educating the travel agencies for pilgrims in order to ensure that the buses chosen for the expedition meet the technical specifications; are suitable for traveling for long distances; and are equipped with seats that are designed to provide the complete comfort for pilgrims. “Agencies must conduct full maintenance checks and change the tires of the buses prior to traveling. In order to avoid traffic accidents caused by fatigue and exhaustion resulting from driving for such long hours, agencies must also provide a substitute driver for each bus,” he said.
Colonel Al Bloushi praised the fruitful cooperation among the competent authorities that worked together as an integrated system in order to provide traffic safety for pilgrims; for their facilitation of the procedures for the return trips from the UAE; and for the provision of distinguished services for the pilgrims travelling on back and forth.
